I'm Tim and I created everything you see on this website. It's been quite a road getting here (we all have our story).
I grew up in Grand County & Denver Colorado. Grand County (most people know Winter Park or Grand Lake in that area as landmarks) was a great place to be a kid. It was very natural and open - much less of the commercial development that you see today. I thrived in this environment.
My folks then split and I headed to Denver with my mom and sis where, as you can imagine, things were quite different. City living changes your view of the world - a little more boxed and contained.
I then headed back to the mountains with dad for the 13-18 age range - it was great to get back to the natural state of being where you interacted with the wild much more. I'm surprised that I didn't really jump into art at this point - I think I probably needed to grow up a bit before I knew it was okay to be "artsy" and free with expression in the art world.
College took me to California and then back to Colorado where I received a teaching degree in English. I loved it but for some reason or another did not end up doing it as a profession. I bounced around a bit in technology jobs, etc. and then decided to go to naturopathic medical school in Portland, Oregon.
It was here that I found my creative side rearing its head and trying to get my attention. After 2 years of med school I jumped shipped and went to the basement to weld stuff. I have a background in lots of different construction methods so it came naturally.
My metal art started- I created furniture to start with. One of my first creations was a bistro table and stools that I promptly sold on Craigslist for the cash to get back to Colorado with my girlfriend Anna. Metal Wall Art started slowly as I didn't even know the genre existed at this point.
I then dabbled with custom pot racks, wine racks, and everything in between.
One day I fell into the idea of a metal wall hanging by messing up a panel I was working on for another project. Boom - I was hooked - I could see the potential.
Metal Wall Art since then has become my full time job - I love creating unique pieces that people can enjoy. I do the summer art show circuit and then sell online (as you can obviously see if you're on this site). I also do a fair amount of custom work which can be quite fun.
I really hope you enjoy my metal wall art - it's a direct expression of ME. Let me know if I can help in any way by emailing comments or questions.
Thanks!! Tim Herbst - Metal Artist
